Born in Chicago, Kent Farrington comes from a modest family. He started riding at the age of eight after seeing a picture of his mother on horseback.
He turned professional by going to work for Tim Grubb, who represented Great Britain four times at the Olympic Games, before continuing his career with American rider Leslie Howard, who represented his country at two Olympiads.
