Coming from a family of 7 children, Bertram started horse riding early on. Bertram's father had racehorses. The young Irish prodigy quickly distinguished himself, winning several medals at the European Pony and Junior Championships. It was with Billy Twomey that Bertram Allen progressed in his younger years. His Irish coach gave him the opportunity to meet Molly Malone (Kannan), with whom he took his first steps in the elite category.

At the age of 15, he moved to Germany to train with Marcus Ehning and at 17, he won the first round of the World Championships in Caen in 2014, where he finished 7th individually with Molly Malone. An unequalled success at this age! In 2015, he climbed onto the 3rd step of the podium in the World Cup Final.

In 2017, he was part of the Irish European Champion team.

His younger brother, Harry Allen, has followed in his elder brother's footsteps, regularly placing in international Grand Prix events.
