Wathelet treats himself in Valkenswaard!
After two wonderful days of relaxation at the beginning of the week to celebrate his 40th birthday, Grégory Wathelet gave himself the best possible gift by winning the Valkenswaard CSI5* Grand Prix with the stallion Nevados (Calvados Z). It was a nice reward also for his investors who decided to help the Belgian rider to secure the grey for his stables... just before the beginning of the pandemic.
"I knew the jump-off was going to be fast, so I decided to take a risk and he decided to perform for me. I know my horse is fast and I could afford to take risks on the left-hand turns. I think we can thank Jan Tops for organizing such a high-level event in such a difficult times for everyone and for the sport," said Grégory Wathelet.
The rider from Liège came in ahead of Scott Brash on Hello Jefferson (ex Jerenmias van het Hulstenhof by Cooper vd Heffinck), ahead of the Dutch riders: Bart Bles on another horse by Cooper vd Heffinck, KrisKras DV and Willem Greve on the stallion Carambole (Cassini I).
