Toupie de la Roque back in competition
Last weekend, the Selle Français mare Toupie de la Roque (Kannan) reappeared in competition under the saddle of Luxembourg rider Victor Bettendorf, at a national event in Saint-Lô over 1.20-25m obstacles. Her owner Michel Hécart announced to our colleagues at Grandprix that "Victor is a crack rider, so he can do anything with Toupie as long as she remains capable. In any case, he’s getting to know her in the arena while getting her going again. At this point, we don't have a specific plan for her beyond these first few competitions. It’s all on her."
Having been trained and competed internationally in young horse events by Michel Hécart, the chestnut joined Julien Epaillard’s stables in 2017. With him, she had her finest hours at the top level, notably with the victory in the CSI5*-W Grand Prix in Amsterdam and her second place in the World Cup stage in Mechelen. Toupie de la Roque has been off injured for more than a year, but is now back on track with Victor Bettendorf.
