Pius Schwizer is the new Swiss National Champion

31 August 2019

In addition to being a CSI3*, Humlikon was once again the venue for the Elite Swiss Championship’s this year. Already in the lead after round 1, Pius Schwizer didn’t lose his nerve, winning a new national title. Entering the jump-off, the Lucerne rider had a rail in hand, after Bryan Balsiger, who had been close on his heels since the beginning of the Championship with Ak's Courage (Chepetto), had just knocked a pole down at the last obstacle. The young Neuchâtel prodigy had to leave the crown to Pius Schwizer. He regularly distinguished himself in this Championship, and it’s the second time that he’s won it with his Balou du Rouet son, Balou Rubin R. The 2009 European Team Champion in Windsor finished his championship with a score of... 0 faults and let his joy explode at the end of the course, his arms raised to the heavens!

Marc Röthlisberger, who was 12th after the jump-off, made an impressive comeback, winning the silver medal with the excellent Agatha d'Ecaussinnes (Kashmir van Schuttershof), and Roland Grimm came in third with Captain (Canstakko). It was a group victory of the French-speaking Swiss competitors with Flavien Auberson coming in 4th with Daniel III (Ultimo), Bryan Balsiger coming in 6th with Ak's Courage, and Edwin Smits who was 7th with Farezzo (Arezzo VDL x Van Gogh). The new European Champion Martin Fuchs came in fifth with his promising mount Chica B Z (Canturano x Berlin).
