No Dinard in 2020

05 May 2020

In the middle of this Covid-19 pandemic, and following the declaration by the Prime Minister on April 27th, the Mars family has been forced to cancel the Jumping International de Dinard show. This 5-Star competition which, each Summer, brings together, the world's show jumping elite and more than 40,000 spectators, was to be held from July 30th to August 2nd, 2020 at the mythical Val Porée equestrian stadium.

Danièle Mars, President of the Jumping International de Dinard show:

"It’s obviously a great disappointment for all those involved in this sporting event and for the general public: the City of Dinard, all the partners, riders, grooms, owners, and the public who faithfully return each year to see the best horses and riders in the world compete, and of course the whole team involved in the organization of the competition. Although difficult, this decision that has been imposed on us, was nevertheless the only possible outcome in the worldwide fight against the virus. Everyone’s health is now the priority, and we must participate in the collective effort to overcome this pandemic.

As horse show organizers, we want to assure the entire equestrian sector of our support during this very difficult period that we’re going through, and we remain committed to the sector.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2021 edition, which we promise will be exceptional!"

The Selle Français team, for its part, wanted to be a lot more positive by issuing a press release announcing that nothing was lost for the moment:

Dear Selle Français breeders,

In this pre-decontainment period announcement, we wanted to speak to you directly.

We hope that this sudden and unprecedented crisis has not affected you and your families too much.

In recent weeks, we have been working with and for SHF, our parent company, to draft a health protocol, which has been forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture. We’re now waiting for the validation of this protocol, which will be the green light that we need for the resumption of activities in our sector. We know that it’s essential that this resumption is able to take place to allow you to present your horses and have them graded. As a selection organization, it is our duty to ensure this happens, as it is essential for the selection scheme of our Selle Français breed.

The sport sector then depends on the fruit of our joint work, since the tools used to assist in selection are based on the expertise of our judges, breed testing, the characterization of breeding stock and the calculation of indices. Also, in the days and weeks to come, following the Ministry’s response, and in close collaboration with the regional associations, we will establish a calendar for the resumption of breed competitions. This calendar and the places where these tests will take place will take into account the constraints that have been imposed upon us. As much as is possible, we will still hold a French Championship for each of the Selle Français circuits. But above all, it seems to us, that it is important and necessary that you have access to events up to the regional level, in compliance with sanitary measures. Thus, you will be able to present your foals, fillies, mares, geldings and stallions, and participate fully in their education. You initiate their transformation and you are a participant in their performance, and by enhancing your breeding programs, you are an indispensable link in the resumption of trade.

Your youngstock haven’t been affected yet. The foal contests usually start in mid-June, and our 2 and 3-year-olds have been able to take advantage of the pastures to refine their growth.

Our wonderful breeders can be assured of the commitment of the entire Selle Français Studbook team, of our contacts in the regions: administrators, associations, judges and volunteers to defend, support and relaunch the sporting industry in general, and the Selle Français breed in particular.

Take care!

See you soon,

The Selle Français Studbook team
