Denver is leaving Holly Smith
A new pair appeared together at the CSI2* in Valencia, organized this week at the Haras des Grillons. Holly Smith's Olympic horse, Denver (Memphis), is now riding under French colors: he was competing with Sadri Fegaier in the 1.30m event yesterday morning. The new pair, who are taking the time to get to know each other, made their first round and totaled five points.
Denver with his new rider
Bred by the Woertman family, the gelding first turned to eventing with UK-based French rider Constance Lucie Copestake. It was there that Denver started to compete internationally up to CCI4*-S before riding under the saddle of Holly Smith in 2019. With the British rider, the bay had his best rankings at high level in show jumping. They won the CSIO3* Grands Prix in Vejer de la Frontera and the CSI3* in Vilamoura. Their multiple performances led them to be on the starting lists for the Tokyo Games in the team event before winning the consolation event at the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona last October. The pair ended on a positive note in Lyon, finishing second in the Longines Grand Prix, third in the Equita Masters and second in the World Cup Grand Prix.
