Candy de Nantuel at Pénélope Leprévost’s

19 January 2021

The Selle Français stallion Candy de Nantuel (Luidam x Diamant de Sémilly x Quidam de Revel) will start his 2021 season at the Sunshine Tour under the saddle of... Penelope Leprévost. The beautiful chestnut who is very popular among breeders, will join Excalibur de la Tour Vidal (Ugano Sitte x Ogano Sitte) another stallion from the France Elevage Group. Selle Français-approved at the age of 3 and then at Zangerseide a little later, he was a finalist in the French championship for 4-year-olds, winner of the master of the Selle Français stallions for 5-year-olds and finished fourth in the same year at the French championship in Fontainebleau. He was also ninth in the French championship for 6-year-olds the following year, then finalist in the World Championships for 7-year-olds in Lanaken despite a serious fall two months earlier. The fall was serious enough to disrupt the pair's 2020 season. The GFE then took the decision to rest their star stallion. He is presently completing six months of freezing after a well-filled dance card. No fewer than five hundred mares have been covered, albeit frozen. A period that has been used to get the stallion back in shape for his return to competition!

"So far, Penelope has tried the horse our and we have decided to allow Candy to try his luck at the highest level. It was a difficult choice because we have a huge demand for him, and many breeders would like to have him available in fresh. Nevertheless, he’s is in great shape today. He’s at 100% of his capacity so we can only hope that his fall is now behind him. We owe it to ourselves to give him a chance for the sake of all the people who have believed in him since he was young. His offspring constantly are proving them right. Last year, he had no less than four horses from his first generation admitted to the Selle Français, including three in the top 10. This year, the BWP admitted his first son abroad while the KWPN selected one of his offspring for the second phase. He also enjoys a very good rating at sales. Last year ten of his offspring changed hands at different sales for an average price of more than 33,000 Euros, which is not an insignificant sum. We thank Thomas Rousseau for his excellent work. We are going to let Penelope take her first steps during the Sunshine Tour and obviously follow her evolution carefully", said Brice Elvezi, GFE Director.
