Abdel Said stunned at the double penalty for showjumpers!

25 September 2020

Following the new regulations concerning international endurance races, the UAE Equestrian Federation has decided to no longer organize international events in its territory. The FEI undertook an investigation into the prestigious and highly prized 160km Sheikh Mohammed Cup and President Cup races, and both should have been held as International Endurance Events (CEIs) as the number of foreign athletes far exceeded the quota permitted for National Events.

The FEI considered this to be a clear intent to avoid the new rules and decided to suspend equestrian events - even national ones - in the United Arab Emirates from September 24 to December 31, 2020, for all equestrian disciplines under the jurisdiction of the FEI, and until March 31, 2021 for endurance events.

Today, the Egyptian showjumping rider, Abdel Said, posted on social media that he was amazed by the pain that is being inflicted on showjumpers who were counting on the Winter tour in the Gulf countries. A punishment that is made all the more difficult as competitions are not widespread in this Covid period, and it’s more difficult than ever for riders who are not in the top 30 to get a place in the 4- and 5-star competitions.
