The winners of the week-end

11 February 2019

After Boyd Exell's poor performance and the misadventures of his father Ijsbrand Chardon yesterday (harness issue), his son, Bram Chardon easily won the FEI World Cup Carriage Driving Final after a magnificent performance today: he won his first world title almost 20 seconds ahead of his compatriot Koos de Ronde (time and obstacle faults included over two days).

But, speaking of mistakes, the 25-year-old leader didn’t make any on the final four courses: "It was a good two days, the carriage was really good, the horses were in great shape and that's important because in the final, the slightest mistake can be very expensive. It's a whole other game because the level of competition is so high". It’s a level that the Dutch driver, with his calmness, finesse of hand, the quality of his horses... and the experience inherited from his father should dominate for several years to come now. The name Chardon is not about to disappear from the shelves. Koos de Ronde and Belgian Glenn Geerts will most likely be grumbling, they were already on the final podium in Bordeaux and they must settle for second and third place again!

In Peelbergen, Lars Kersten won the Grand Prix*** on Dobbey (Zirroco Blue VDL) ahead of Frenchman Max Thirouin on Utopie Villelongue (Mylord Cathago) and Leopold van Asten on VDL Groep Miss Untouchable (Chacco Blue).

Alexis Borrin won the Grand Prix** de Lier on Alea de la Marque (Mylord Cathago) ahead of Ireland’s Michael G Duffy on SIEC Captain Future (Chellano) and Ruben Lamers on Dhalita (No Limit).

The Belgian Stijn Timmerman won the Grand Prix of Oliva with Katanga vh Dingeshof ahead of Ben Maher on F One USA (Toulon) and Tim Wilks on Knock Out van't Paradijs (Adorado) while the Colombian Dayro Arroyave took 4th place with Handy van HD (Tinka's Boy).

For the first Grand Prix of the Valencia tour, it was the German Manfred Marschall who won the Grand Prix with Kalence Flying, ahead of Carlos Lopez on Ulhane de Conde (Jarnac) and Gilles Terrassier on Escado vh Lindenhof (Codex).
